When UK citizen David Ashley, residing in St Lucia, began to experience severe back pain, the intention was for him to have a CT scan to pinpoint the complaint. Whilst it would have been possible for him to have travelled to the USA for treatment, it was felt that, as a British citizen - and with more cost effective quality treatment for such conditions available in the UK - it would be better for him to return to the UK.

Repatriation took place on a scheduled flight, for which BUPA International fully reimbursed Mr Ashley.

As it transpired, tests revealed that Mr Ashley required major back surgery. His BUPA International cover ensured that he received the highest quality treatment from the UK's leading specialists. He was able to complete his recovery in familiar surroundings, before returning to St Lucia.
