Baby Jay airlifted to Nairobi
When six-week-old baby Jay Pradipkumar Shah began suffering continuing convulsions, a CT scan in a hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, showed potentially serious neurological problems. He was later admitted to the Nairobi hospital for treatment, but suffered an adverse reaction to medication. It was at this stage that BUPA International were called in.
Jay's father was covered by BUPA International, and agreed with the local medical team that it would be better to repatriate Jay to the UK for treatment. BUPA International arranged for baby Jay and his father to be repatriated by International SOS Assistance.
At the Portland Hospital in London, Jay underwent surgery and received the latest available medication. Jay's neurological behaviour returned to complete normality and his family were happy and relieved to report that he soon returned to good health.
BUPA International settled the claim directly with the hospitals and providers - giving Jay's family one less concern.
